Crafty Elements

Over here in Okinawa, there are no big dumpsters to throw away large items. You either have to pay extra for pickup or try to fit it in a trash bag. So, I have been forced to find projects to use up these extra materials (that and it's eco-friendly and economical). I made these little geometric wall hangings from some red fabric and old cardboard boxes I had lying around from our move. There should be a how-to video/powerpoint going up on the Threadbanger.com blog fairly soon. I tried to upload it here with no avail so you only get a picture. These are rosettes made from zippers that I nabbed from dollar store pillowcases that were intended for a different project. I used a hot glue gun to keep them together. This is my Susie Q apron. I made it out of my scrap pile (yey for reusing!). The main part is made from two pant legs, and the green is from a tshirt. The ties are made from the bottom hem of the tshirt. Sorry for the delay in posting. My phone camera was acting up, and I've been really busy starting up a crochet/knit group, finding a job, and volunteering. Enough about that.... I organized almost all my fabrics. By the way, you can get fabric from almost anything...my favorites are sheets and the blankets that you get on the airplanes....they are just waiting for something to be made out of them!! These are some quick earrings I put together. As a side note, I am donating all the earrings that I made that were for sale on my Etsy site to a silent auction fundraiser (40-45 pairs). Some stuff I have been working on for the home, holidays, and human (was that a stretch?). Oh my gosh! A dead-looking flower! It must mean Halloween is coming!!!! Okay that was dumb, but anyways, here is my Halloweeny coffee filter flower. I made it similar to what you would do if you were making a coffee filter rose, but made the petals spikey instead. I used a hot glue gun instead of floral tape, because I feel that it holds better, and I used purple and black water colors. I used a bamboo stick as the stem, which I should have painted. This is my hangman, and yes, it is a real noose that I tied. I do NOT recommend this if you have kids. We may have a Halloween party, so I am starting to rethink it since I'm starting to doubt my husband's friend's intelligence. Okay, so this post is not as organized as it normally is because technology is just not working with me today....so here we go..... So we still have boxes from when we moved, partially because we need to donate or ebay the stuff we want to get rid of....so I made a curtain to hide the goods. Much better! I decided that we needed a cushion for the futon. So I hand sewed 2 pillows together and made a casing and voila! I was going to sew black button on it to keep the pillows in place, but ended up poking my finger several times instead....I decided it would be a project for another day. This is actually a rug crochet out of grocery bags. I grossly underestimated the time and amount of bags this project would take when I started.
